Coyote Gulch: Hoops, Hikes, and Live Music

In February 2019, we set out for a hike we’d heard a lot about—Coyote Gulch, tucked way down in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Getting to the trail head was an adventure in itself, driving miles and miles down Hole in the Rock Road. Once we hit the trail, we knew we were in for something special. The hike had us crossing the stream that ran through Coyote Gulch more times than we could count, but the scenery made it all worth it. Red rock walls towering above us, twisting canyons—it was stunning in every direction.

But honestly, the highlight of the trip might have come before we even hit the trail. The night before, we grabbed dinner at the Circle D restaurant, and Bryan (AKA Snyde) made sure everyone knew his priorities. While a live band was playing, Snyde loudly cheered for a great shot while watching the NCAA final basketball game that was on TV above the musicians’ heads. Let’s just say the rest of the restaurant knew exactly who Snyde was cheering for—though we’re not sure the band appreciated his enthusiasm!

Great hike, great scenery, and an unforgettable pre-hike dinner. This trip had it all.
